The Challenge

Homeowners Got Estimates. Not a Sales Consultation.

Like many home improvement contractors, Tixan arrived at appointments, exchanged a few words, and followed the homeowner straight to the kitchen, bathroom, or other project area. The visit quickly turned into measuring and discussing the work.

Without a clear consultation process, there was little opportunity to understand the homeowner's deeper motivation, distinguish the recommendation from competing bids, or establish value before discussing price.

The Real Problem

The sales conversation was being reduced to a scope of work and a number.

Sending estimates by email without walking homeowners through them made price comparison easier while leaving the value of the recommendation unexplained.

Our Diagnosis & Solution

What We Found. What We Fixed.

The opportunity wasn't simply to deliver more estimates. It was to improve what happened before the estimate, during the price conversation, and when the proposal was presented.

01

No Appointment Structure

Visits moved directly into the project area and measurements, with no established setting for a proper consultation.

What We Changed

Introduced a deliberate opening: sit down with the homeowner, establish the conversation, then inspect the project with purpose.

02

Price Before Value

Discussion moved to measurements and price before uncovering why the homeowner wanted the work done or what delaying it meant.

What We Changed

Strengthened discovery around motivations, concerns, consequences, and the value of solving the problem before presenting cost.

03

Unexplained Estimates

Estimates were often sent without a live explanation, leaving homeowners to interpret the proposal and compare numbers alone.

What We Changed

Emphasized presenting estimates by phone, video, or in person to explain the recommendation, answer questions, and agree on next steps.

The Transformation

Before Sales X. After Sales X.

Before

  • Walk in, follow the homeowner to the job area, and start measuring.
  • Discuss scope and price before establishing the project's full value.
  • Email estimates and leave homeowners to compare bids on their own.

After

  • Open with a structured consultation before the walkthrough.
  • Use discovery to connect the recommendation to homeowner priorities.
  • Present estimates in a live conversation and clarify the next step.
The Bigger Lesson

An Estimate Without a Conversation Is an Invitation to Price Shop.

A homeowner deserves to understand what is being recommended and why. When contractors simply send a number, they lose the opportunity to explain value, answer questions, and differentiate their work.
